Overview:

This is an introductory course in combinatorics. The catalog description: Classic puzzles of recreational mathematics; matching theory and graph theory; enumeration techniques; combinatorial analysis.

Grades:

Regular homework will be assigned and graded on a 4-point scale (4=A, 3=B, ...). Late homework assignments will not be accepted, but I will drop your lowest assignment. We will have also two midterms and a final exam, dates to be announced. Exams will be based on lectures and homework.

Midterm #1: 20%
Midterm #2: 20%
Cumulative final: 25%

Textbook:

The recommended textbook for the course is Introductory Combinatorics, 5th edition, by Brualdi. I may also sometimes consult other textbooks in preparing my lectures. If you come to all the lectures and take good notes, you might not need to purchase the textbook.

Office hours:

I will hold regular office hours Thursdays 4:10-5:05pm and Fridays 11:30am-12:25pm. If you can not come at one of those times and you need to meet with me, please email me to set up an appointment. My office is MW540, on the 5th floor of the Math Tower.
